If you've not had the pleasure of doing this lately you are in for an eye opening experience. All states are required to change their laws and maybe your state hasn't gotten around to it yet but oh my.....
You have to provide documentation of every name change since your birth certificate was issued. So if you've married once then all you need is your CERTIFIED copy of your birth certificate and the CERTIFIED copy of your marriage license. If you've ever divorced and remarried you have to bring all of those certified copies with you. Even if you are not changing anything on your current license you have to bring all that stuff.
Your social security card must match EXACTLY to your DL or it will not be renewed. You must bring the real SS card, not a copy.
Check right now when your DL is up for renewal and start getting your ducks all in a row. It takes time to get SS cards re-issued, court houses to mail certified copies, etc.
It took me 2 trips to the DMV since the postcard I rec'd from them was worded in a such a way that I didn't think I had to bring all that stuff since I was just renewing with no changes. WRONG.
