seemadeo on "Moderate polyhydramnios anyone?"

Hi all

Anyone checking here that was diagnosed with moderate polyhydramnios or hydramnios? Essentially extra amniotic fluid?

I am 29 weeks tomorrow and was dx with this today. I was in for an extra u/s due to dx at about 20 weeks of unilateral ventriculomegally - which is one ventricle in the baby's brain being a little too large (a bit above top end of normal). That has been scary enough.....as it is not clear what it could mean. Today the ventricle had not grown over the last 5 weeks - so that was good news as prognosis is worse if the ventricle keeps growing.

But now there is a new problem with extra amniotic fluid. So far my internet research tells me that this could be a real problem - that when in some cases it means there is an underlying abnormality with the baby (could be severe) and in some cases the mother is more at risk of various things I think - like preterm labour or rupture or other stuff - I don't know much about. They couldn't see any structural reason for the increased fluid today.

Now I am deeply worried....as the ventricle problem could also spell a chromosonal abnormality, although all else with the baby - all organs, heart, growth, etc. are fine - on all the various u/s I have had. I am so scared. I never did have an amnio - as didn't really find problem #1 utnil 24 weeks and now another problem - or potential I should try to remind myself. I saw a junior medical genetics person today - who didn't know much and alarmed me more. I have an appt. with my OB tomorrow - that may shed some light based on her experience. At this point I feel I could handle something happening with me better than thinking the baby may have something seriously wrong......I am a single mom to a 4 yr old DD (who has some behavioral challenges) - so I cannot imagine caring for two with challenges....I know I am getting ahead of myself, but it is hard not to.

Thanks for any info - seemadeo
