Hi, all- i'd be interested in your perspectives on this. i took my 4 month old for his checkup today. he's ebf. he was born at 7 lbs, 12 oz, which i recall was about the 50th percentile. at 2 months, he was around 13 lbs and had jumped to the 90th percentile. now today he was not quite 15 lbs and back to 50th percentile. ped said he should have gained 2 lbs, and was 1/2 a pound shy of that (approx). she wasn't especially concerned but said that i should make sure i was getting enough to drink/eat, bring him back for a weight check next month, and consider starting solids.
those that know me will know that i'm gung ho on bfing and didn't introduce solids with my other two till 6 and 7 months and that i'm not a fan of solids for a babe that can't even sit up yet. i wouldn't even consider formula. and i'm really not into the cereals, which is i guess what you'd have to use in a babe this young.
i'm feeling kind of guilty b/c i've been on weight watchers since he was 6 weeks old- i don't skimp and i always use all my points up, but i am down 19 lbs-
so am i starving the kid? should i give up WW? should i eat an egg instead of using my precious last few points on a treat? should i add dairy back into my diet (cut it out b/c he pukes so much). or is this baby just modulating back to the average size kid he was when he was born? (i can add that his brother was also fat in the early months and went back down to average by 6 or 9 months and in fact well below- 5th percentile- at a year-- but his height was always tracking on the same percentile line- 80th or so). i forgot to ask whether he had grown height-wise.
and i know that bm has way more calories than solids and i'd be afraid he'd nurse even less and gain less...
if you saw this kid, you'd think he was a tubbalub- and people say that to me all the time-- and he's right at the 50th percentile....
thanks for any thoughts/ideas/support, pilma
