ok...so last week we made the announcement to my family and the news was well received with the usual 'congratulations im so happy for you' thing---and it seemed genuine...
well...tonight we planned to make the big announcement to my inlaws and expected the same 'congratulations\' thing....well..here we are....12 of us out to dinner and when the time was right we made the announcement....and then....nothing....crickets....no congratulations nothing....
my mil and one of the little kids were the only ones to show a normal reaction.....amongst the others....one sil sat there looking as if she were at a funeral..literally....her head was hung as if she just heard horrible news..(this is someone i have gone on at least 10 vacations with and have been very good to for many years...(shes in her 50s never had kids and often talks about how shes devastated over never having had kids----could that be the reason??....ohhh...and to top off the rudeness...she immediately picks up her cell and dials my husbands ex wife to let the kids tell her the news--wtf?,,,the kids stayed on the phone w-her for an hour at the table---how f-kin rude is that??
......the other sil actually started crying at the table! wtf...(never had any issues w-this sil--not good not bad--just a whole lot of neutral cordial holiday dinner small talk---later they said that she cried bc we said the babies are due in feb and feb is the month of her fathers bday and she got upset bc he dies 6 months ago (he was almost 90 btw and dies peacefully and not in pain)....is this reaction normal??? this led to her 17yo daughter to also start crying--so here i am--i made a huge announcement--and everyone is gathered around them trying to comfort them crying--wtf? (she has 2 kids that r teens and often talks about having wanted more and lives w-the regret bc her husband didnt want more--could that have been it? (there is no bad blood at all w-me and her--our relationship is very cordial--nothing more nothing less)---this is a woman that must be the center of attention t all times--every holiday at her house etc---she even will stop xmad dinner to say i have a big announcement---and itll be something trivial like her kid got a B on a quiz or he beat his record time in track...and were all supposed to clap and scream congratulations....but here i make a genuinely huge announcement and i get this???-
her husband (my bro in law) got up after we made the huge announcement and went to the bathroom (he later said 'oh--i just had the runs nothing to do w-your announcement...' wtf? (btw--never had issues w-him either--i genuinely think he just got up to go to the bathroom--not as a rude thing to me--but as if there wasnt just a huge announcement made---is it me or is that seriously rude???
oddly enough....one of my bro in laws is mentally disabled adult--and could u believe that he is the only one that stood up at the table walked over to me with his hand out and said 'congratulations-im really happy for you= and he shook my hand!--i was shocked!.(he's borderline mentally retarded)....i loudly said--thank you so much..you're actually the only one to congratulate me........well i said it loud enough that they all heard it and as we were leaving the restaurant thy all came over and gave me an obligatory congratulations...which at that point was about 2 hrs after i had made the announcement....
then we get home and an hour later i get a text from the 1st sil saing congrats were all very happy 4u-----really?because between the crickets and the crying i couldnt tell--------------
so....anyone here have any thoughts?.....i feel disgusted---do i just pretend that didnt happen? any thoughts on why it did happen? ---ive had no issues w-them ever-is it just me or would any of u be hurt? any thoughts on how to deal w-it--if at all?......this just happenned an hour ago..im still in shock...
