This is my first IVF and of course I'm experiencing a pretty much freak incident! I went for my first beta last Friday, so 5 days ago and my HCG level was 7, progesterone and Estradiol were good levels. So of course at 7 I thought that's way too low and there's no chance. Well my doctor is very precautionary and he wanted me to come back Monday. So on Monday the level is 8 - still not great news. Today (Wednesday) it was 7, and the Estradiol and progesterone are down a bit. Usually by this time my HCG would be back down and I'd be getting my period. However, my doctor says an embryo is just hanging out in my uterus, trying to decide to implant or not. He says it's rare, but he's seen it happen before. An embryo can do this for up to 10 days before it decides to actually dig in and implant. So I go back in two days. I'm not hopeful at all, especially because my progesterone and estradiol levels are down from two days ago. But have any of you heard of this happening?? Why am I so abnormal?!
The good news is that he doesn't believe this has anything to do with my body. He believes it's just the embryo trying to figure out what it wants to do. Maybe it's looking around for some chocolate chips or something... better go have a cookie... ha!
