Just wanted to memorialize the official end to breastfeeding my 16 month DD - we dropped the last (morning) feeding last Monday. I had a bottle of EBM ready to help ease the transition (she never takes a bottle anymore, just straw or sippy cups) and it went really well. DD asks to nurse immediately when I go in to get her in the morning, and that day I explained to her that she was going to have a bottle instead and that mommy's breasts were done making milk, and she took the bottle without any problem. Now, when she wakes up, she just asks for her "baba" and glugs down all the EBM. And since DD has never liked cow's milk, I'm hoping this will be another good opportunity to get her acclimated to it - I'll start mixing it very gradually with the EBM in my freezer stash until the bottle is all milk. Then we'll switch back over to a cup.
It definitely feels bittersweet - I can't believe we're done and that my baby is such a big girl now, but, at the same time, I'm ok being done (except that my body seems to have been thrown into some kind of hormonal wackiness, which I didn't expect, including packing on about 5 lbs in a week - ack!).
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions here over the past 16 months!
