Sigh. DD just doesn't have a big appetite.
She was born full term at 6.9 lbs (18%). She was a snacker, and had reflux = poor initial gain. Got the reflux under control, got serious about nursing (every 2 hours, waked her at night, etc.) and her weight jumped to 32% by 8 weeks.
Now she is 3 months. She is down to only 1 feeding at night (last nurse is at 7pm, then she wakes at 4am for a good long nurse and then gets up at 7:30 and nurses usually 1 side b/c my bb's are slightly engorged by then.) Went to ped yesterday and in 1 month weight went from 10.2 to 11.4. He said it was "fine" but I realized it's barely the minimum gain they like to see. She went back to 23% from 32%.
Would love your thoughts on how to get her to gain more. Here are my initial ideas - pls let me know what you think. BTW, supply is NOT an issue. I pump loads even between feedings to keep supply high.
- wake her at 10pm for a dream feed
- try to keep her on one side instead of 2 sides at feedings = more hind milk.
- keep pumping to increase supply and keep hind milk available (lac nurse told me that this would help keep the hind milk readily available instead of a bb engorged and filled with foremilk)
- never go more than 2-3 hours without a feed
that's all I have. BTW, she doesn't like a bottle much but I still try it. Also, she's a happy baby reaching all her developmental milestones (she ever rolled over already). Her height is also 25%.
THANKS
