I have an 11 day old daughter. 39 weeker, 6lbs 13 oz. I have very large breasts and she is tiny! She has been a great nurser from birth, but I have a very hard time getting her latched on correctly to the right breast. As a result, I have a deep crack on that nipple. It doesn't drip blood, but it does leave red spots on my breast pads. I have tried every position but it is so hard to get her comfortable and she never latches on well. She is getting plenty of milk, but she is making clicking and gulping noises while on that side and my nipple is distorted when she is done (the bottom half of the nipple looks flat). I am very committed to breastfeeding, but it hurts so bad that at night when I am exhausted anyways, I just want to give up and fear that if I can't correct this soon, then I will give up. I have a 13 year old son that I breastfed until 10 months old. I remember that he always preferred my left breast, but I don't remember having these kinds of problems with him. I do have a call in to the lactation consultant, but was wondering if anyone here had any advice?
Thanks!
Sarah
