Dikaiakos on "My IVF story"

Hi everyone,
My first post- just thought I'd tell my story.

I met my husband late at 38. I'd never been married before and always wanted to be a mother but didn't want to be a single mum so I waited and waited and waited for Mr Right.

We started trying about 5 months after we met and after 9 months decided intervention was necessary, so off to the IVF clinic.

By the time I had the egg retrieval done, I was 39.5

I cant remember the exact numbers now but I had 21 eggs retrieved - I remember the eggs were 21 as the doctor was slightly surprised, then about 17 fertilised and by day 5 we had 12 left.

On transfer day the doctor showed us 2 blastocysts on the screen, one was popping out of its shell and thats the one he used. He was quite pleased and confident with this one.

Well to cut a long story short, it worked first time and we now have a very healthy daughter who is almost 3.

We decided 12 months later to start transfering the others to try for a second baby. Where I live they are very reluctant to transfer any more than one embryo. In fact the clinic I go to refuses to transfer more than one at a time.

Anyway we went through 3 FET's and no success, each time they thawed 2 to 4 eggs as some didn't survive thawing. I got disheartened and gave up for a while. I even considered getting rid of the remaining FE but couldn't bring myself to sign the papers.

So here I am at 43 and we decided to have one last go with the FE, we only had 2 left.

We went in and only 1 thawed out sucessfully and 1 was transfered.

The very last one left.

IT WORKED, but I have a low HCG number, in my dissapointment I cant remember if she said it was 46.5 or 26.5 and they would like it to be 50. The nurse told me that it could come up (I have another blood test on Monday) but she said that it didn't look good and not to get excited.

If it doesn't work out I don't know if I will go back as the clinic won't treat women past 44 and I only have 7 months before I'm 44. I also feel greedy as I have 1 child and so many others IVF hasn't worked for.

Anyway I suppose I just wanted to tell my story for others to have some hope.

I\'ll let you all know what the outcome of this pregnancy is. Fingers crossed (and toes, legs, arms and eyes).
