nagi_hari on "Dr. recommending cerclage (pg, loss, l/c ment)"

I see that this board doesn't get a whole lot of activity, but I thought maybe I'd give it a try anyway.

Brief history: 3 1/2 y.o. DS (natural conception from before DH had cancer), born at 37 weeks with absolutely NO complications during pregnancy or childbirth. DH diagnosed w/testicular cancer while pg with DS, so we had sperm frozen and used it on IVF.

Last year, got pg w/twins, but my water broke prematurely and I had my precious boys at 21w1d. They lived less than an hour. Dr. doesn't know which came first (chicken or the egg analogy!)--water broke then cervix dilated or vice-versa.

So, fast forward to this year, and I am now 9w pg w/twins again. My OB and peri both think a cerclage could help prevent pre-term delivery again. She'd like me to have one placed around 13-14 weeks assuming I have enough cervix for the stitch.

So, my question is, what should I expect? Are there any questions I need to be asking? She said it'll be up to me to decide if I want her to put it in or the peri's office. I asked who had more experience and she said they both have about the same, but that the peris have done it more recently. I've only read up a little bit about this subject, so I really don't know much. Can anyone out there help me through this? That's only a month away, and I want to make sure I am as educated as I can be before I have to make any decisions.

Thanks so much in advance!
Sara 9w with twins
